Under the Sea!
We came to class today and we had a stack of plates in front of us and we had a stapler, string and sissors. We had to create a under the sea creature, but it had to be a newly discovered sea creature. This was an interesting process because there was three of us in a group and we all probably had our own ideas in our heads, so we started to make random pieces. It was neat how it all turned out because we used our individual pieces and put it together to make our sea creature. We named our sea creature Frank.

Glue and Chalk Pastels
This was a fun project. I was sick the day we had the paper handed out so I had to go get my own supplies. I got smooth paper which was the first mistake of the project, although the paper didn't crinkle like many others did. I decided to use the butterfly as my main focus area and work on making other designs around it. I kept the design the same within the butterfly so I was able to keep that as my focus area. Around it I did swirls, random shapes and other lines that seemed abstract. I was very pleased with my end results considering I didn't draw anything out with pencil before. I decided to free hand this whole thing, sometimes your best art can't be erased. I forgot to put the textured lines in so I did it later and had to dry it with a hair dryer.
During class we learned the next step of this. We had to use a limited amount of chalk pastels (5 colors) to create this into an abstract picture. We thought of it as a stained glass window and how the colors had to be solid. I love using chalk a lot in pictures because its messy and fun to create different things with. I had a hard time putting the chalk on my paper however because it was too smooth. I had to hairspray my paper a few times in order to get the chalk to stick enough. I did probably 4 layers of chalk, which took almost the whole stick of chalk. I was able to complete the project but I believe if I would have used the right kind of paper I would have been able to make the colors smoother and more appealing. I am pleased with the results considering the difficulty I went through to complete it.
Drawing
We took numerous small items and used them to create a sort of collage. I like drawing a lot so I was really excited for this. I took a paperclip, pin, tweezers, and a key and enlarged them on a piece of paper. The trick however was we couldn't look at the paper as we drew the item which was difficult because you had to think of size and how far to go the whole time. Each item needed to touch two edges. I started out by drawing my tweezers and worked everything around it. It was hard to add things in and enlarge them because the size of one item compared to another was quite off. After we drew in all of our items we had to mark the spots that were negative spaces. I didn't have a lot of large spaces. The next thing we had to do was come up with a different pencil technique to use in each negative space. I used a lot of different techniques. One area I did all lines and in another I did shading and lines through it, I used more techniques which you can see in the picture. It was hard to come up with techniques because I constantly wanted to put just lines I had to think of different ideas by looking around my room, outside, or other random places that could give me inspiration.
I am pleased with my end result.
